Children's Summer Program

The Summer Children's Program allows children ages 8-15 to explore Cape Ann's incredible surroundings by kayak and dive into learning about the local marine life through snorkeling. They will learn and practice all of the safety skills involved with these sports while they enjoy being on the water with friends. This is an incredible way for them to experience the ocean. Discovery Adventures is a permitted through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Board of Health. We exceed the Board of Health requirements and have two trained instructors with each group of twelve who are trained in EMT,Lifesaving,First Aid, and CPR. Groups will learn skills to prepare them for the week of exploring remote areas of Cape Ann by kayak, and snorkeling through the wonders of the underwater world.

A typical week begins with basic kayaking skills and safety. Kayak paddling skills are taught extensively throughout the week. Self rescue techniques are demonstrated and practiced on the first day and assisted rescues are completed within the week.
Next we introduce snorkeling and explore the underwater world in wetsuits and provided gear. We will be identifying marine fish and invertebrates while learning how to free dive.
We kayak to a new location on Cape Ann every day, and discuss navigation and weather each morning to prepare for what the day might bring. We meet rain or shine with a variety of foul weather options! Exploring above and below the waters of Cape Ann, we can’t help but learn about it’s coastline and the creatures that inhabit it.
